Life Drawing Every Wednesday Night

"Tom" by Jack

Yep, it's Wednesday and tonight (6/27) at 7 PM sharp, there will be life drawing at the Matthews Community Center. Come early to set up. Bring $10 in cash (maximum cost), but it will more likely cost you from $5-7, cause the model fee is split among participants, 18 years and older. Nia is the model.

Also note, there is NO life drawing next week due to the 4th of July holiday.

Beautiful Weather at Squirrel Lake Park

There were 7 painters at the park paintout this morning: Sally, Laura, Connie, Kathy, Belinda, Kim and Debbie. There was a little delay due to unanticipated maintenance being done at the park, but thankfully this is a patient bunch and we got into painting by 10 AM. We were most thankful for the cool spring-like weather. After working with the oils and watercolors we feasted at Cafe 157 and talked about future outings and other artists stuff. Fun! Want to join in with us? Email Debbie at dyacenda@aol.com to be in the loop.

Plein Air Buds at Stumptown Park Matthews

Plein air artists: Cynthia, Sally and Laura

Sally's Work in Progress with watercolors

Four of us made it out to Stumptown Park to sketch or paint in watercolors or oil the surrounding park greenery and florals in the shade... don't ya know! Actually the humidity kept it very comfortable and no one complained about heat at all. After a couple hours of painting and getting acquainted (this was Sally and Laura's first time with us) we walked to Pure Taqueria for lunch and talked some more. Very enjoyable company! Hope to see Sally and Laura again!

Join us next week, Tuesday 6/26, at Squirrel Lake Park. The time will change to 9 AM for those who like to come earlier, due to the summer heat, or you can start later at 10 AM.

Thank You Binders for Making MAG Meeting Extra Special

Harry Griffin from Binders with display
of different drawing materials and paper

MAG would like to thank Harry Griffin from Binders in Charlotte for bringing a display to our Drawing Demos meeting, 6/12/12, at the Matthews Community Center. He provided charcoal vines, conte crayons, pencils, colored pencils, drawing pens, etc... along with different types of paper for everyone to practice on. There were also Binders discount coupons handed out. It's always nice when Binders comes and visits with us.
Bob Brooks relating the different types of perspective

Belinda Churchward discussing the creation of a wave

Nancy Kennedy speaking on figure drawing

Thanks also to our speakers, Bob Brooks, Belinda Churchward and Nancy Kennedy for their lecture/demos about perspective drawing, seascapes and figure drawing.

And we appreciate all who came including a couple newcomers!

Rain! Plein Air Buds Canceled

Due to the rain and cloudy weather, plein air will be canceled. If you still want to venture out... by all means, go ahead! And... if you do go out and paint, email Debbie (dyacenda@aol.com) and show her what you did.

Next MAG Meeting Tuesday Night 6/12... Pencil It In!

Need pointers on 1 or 2 point perspectives? Or maybe your figure drawings don't figure too well? And do your ocean waves lack surf-ability? Well, join us:

Tuesday night 6/12 at 6:30 PM
at the Matthews Community Center
for some hands-on pencil instruction with three accomplished sketch artists.

See how they move graphite to make realistically beautiful art forms and then try it yourself. The instructors will be right there with you to help or answer any questions you have. It is free and open to the public. We provide the tools... and refreshments too!

McDowell Art Center Update for June

The excitement is building! The McDowell Art Center is coming along beautifully with the majority of the work, since the last update, being done on the exterior and roof. The following are pictures showing the new brickwork, roofing and cover over the main entrance.
