Yep, it's Wednesday and tonight (6/27) at 7 PM sharp, there will be life drawing at the Matthews Community Center. Come early to set up. Bring $10 in cash (maximum cost), but it will more likely cost you from $5-7, cause the model fee is split among participants, 18 years and older. Nia is the model.
Also note, there is NO life drawing next week due to the 4th of July holiday.
There were 7 painters at the park paintout this morning: Sally, Laura, Connie, Kathy, Belinda, Kim and Debbie. There was a little delay due to unanticipated maintenance being done at the park, but thankfully this is a patient bunch and we got into painting by 10 AM. We were most thankful for the cool spring-like weather. After working with the oils and watercolors we feasted at Cafe 157 and talked about future outings and other artists stuff. Fun! Want to join in with us? Email Debbie at firstname.lastname@example.org to be in the loop.
All Plein Air Painters are invited to join the Plein Air Buds for a morning paint out at Squirrel Lake Park in Matthews. Some of us will arrive at 9 AM but feel free to come as late as 10 AM. There is no charge. Bring your own supplies along with a sun hat, sun screen, bug spray and water (to drink). It may be a hot one!
Afterwards, you're invited to come along and lunch with us at Cafe 157 in downtown Matthews... dutch treat.
MAG's Life Drawing sessions are open to all artists 18 and older. Charge depends on number of participants but still minimal... no more than $10 (most times around $5-8). Starts at 7 sharp, so come early to set up easels or other supplies, at the Matthews Community Center. Thank Nancy for all her hard work in scheduling the models and setting things up.
Four of us made it out to Stumptown Park to sketch or paint in watercolors or oil the surrounding park greenery and florals in the shade... don't ya know! Actually the humidity kept it very comfortable and no one complained about heat at all. After a couple hours of painting and getting acquainted (this was Sally and Laura's first time with us) we walked to Pure Taqueria for lunch and talked some more. Very enjoyable company! Hope to see Sally and Laura again!
Join us next week, Tuesday 6/26, at Squirrel Lake Park. The time will change to 9 AM for those who like to come earlier, due to the summer heat, or you can start later at 10 AM.
MAG members may sign up to sell 2 pieces of artwork at Christ Church on Providence Road from July 9 through August 28. Take-in is Monday, July 9th, at the church, from 10 AM to Noon. MAG does not charge its artists for entries.
The following artists have signed up to enter artwork for sale:
17.Magee, Mary (will bring
it in later in week)
If you plan on submitting artwork and do not see your name, email Debbie at email@example.com.
It's routine all due to Nancy Kennedy, MAG's Program Chairperson, who schedules and sets this up each week. She has Lucinda modeling tonight. Interested? All artists,18 and older, are welcome. Everyone splits the model fee. Maximum charge is $10 but it rarely comes to that. Starting time is 7 PM sharp (so please come early to set up) and location is the Matthews Community Center.
MAG would like to thank Harry Griffin from Binders in Charlotte for bringing a display to our Drawing Demos meeting, 6/12/12, at the Matthews Community Center. He provided charcoal vines, conte crayons, pencils, colored pencils, drawing pens, etc... along with different types of paper for everyone to practice on. There were also Binders discount coupons handed out. It's always nice when Binders comes and visits with us.
Bob Brooks relating the different types of perspective
Belinda Churchward discussing the creation of a wave
Nancy Kennedy speaking on figure drawing
Thanks also to our speakers, Bob Brooks, Belinda Churchward and Nancy Kennedy for their lecture/demos about perspective drawing, seascapes and figure drawing.
And we appreciate all who came including a couple newcomers!
Due to the rain and cloudy weather, plein air will be canceled. If you still want to venture out... by all means, go ahead! And... if you do go out and paint, email Debbie (firstname.lastname@example.org) and show her what you did.
Need pointers on 1 or 2 point perspectives? Or maybe your figure drawings don't figure too well? And do your ocean waves lack surf-ability? Well, join us:
Tuesday night 6/12 at 6:30 PM
at the Matthews Community Center
for some hands-on pencil instruction with three accomplished sketch artists.
See how they move graphite to make realistically beautiful art forms and then try it yourself. The instructors will be right there with you to help or answer any questions you have. It is free and open to the public. We provide the tools... and refreshments too!
The Plein Air Buds will meet at Stumptown Park in downtown Matthews on Tuesday, 6/12, at 10 AM, weather permitting. All artists are welcome and there is no charge. You may choose to paint at the park or venture out towards City Hall, the Community Center or simply do a street scene. MAG offers life drawing to all artists, 18 and older, at the Matthews Community Center. The session starts at 7 PM so come early to set up. Michelle H is the model for tonight. The model fee is split among the participants, so expect to pay $10 at the most but usually it runs around $5-8. Thank Nancy for all her hard work in arranging this.
The excitement is building! The McDowell Art Center is coming along beautifully with the majority of the work, since the last update, being done on the exterior and roof. The following are pictures showing the new brickwork, roofing and cover over the main entrance.
