August Meeting 8-10-10

REMINDER

AUGUST 10, 2010 MATTHEWS ARTISTS GUILD MEETING
6:30 - 8:30 PM
MATTHEWS COMMUNITY CENTER

Everyone is invited to attend and watch a watercolor demonstrations from our Guest Painter
Shirly Landgraf

Shirley Landgraf had taught art for over 30 years at Central Piedmont. She has a studio in her home where she gives private lessons. She also volunteers her time at Southminster Retirement Community teaching watercolor and won first prize when the Guild of Charlotte Artists held a contest there. Traveling with other plein-air artists is another of her many artistic pursuits. Southport, NC is among her favorite places to create water scenes. "I love to make sure there is human interest in my scenes. When I paint a beach chair, I will put a towel on it to show someone has been there." From nature she also draws inspiration for her abstracts. Her watercolor demonstration for the August 10 MAG meeting will be a waterfall scene. John Lomax, a former student of hers, will introduce her to all of us.

May MAG Meeting 2010

The Matthews Artists Guild meeting was held last night with many members and friends joining us and with plenty of paintings to be critiqued. I would first like to thank Harry Griffin and Anthony Ochoa with Binders Art Supplies and Frames for the fantastic door prizes they provided for our meeting! Harry was in attendance and handed out the prizes as we raffled them off to kick off our meeting (You can see Harry in one of the attached photos). Also, I would like to thank Sally Miller and Richard Siegal two local artist who did an excellent job critiquing the paintings! We also learned from Richard that we have a lot of work to do with our framing... Hmmm, I wonder if he offers a class on framing? What a sales guy (just kidding)... Moreover, Richard is however offering a Plein - Air class through Queens College if anyone is interested and where you can pick up more detail. I'm sure the painters who participated, that between the three Critics or is that critique-rs all walk away with some further insight for development. Heck no one was kicked off the island or sent home... Must be some very good painters!

MAG Members Painting Out - Plein Air Style!

Scott Boyles Monthly Paint-Out (September 2009)

The following MAG members Kathering Maske, Catherine Clements, Alan Wells, Carole Connaughton, Yevette Brandell, and Virginia Dauth had a great time painting at Scott Boyles monthly Paint-Out that he holds for free each month at various locations.  Even though the weather forecasters were calling for 60% chance of rain... It turned out to be a splendid day! As they say, it never rains at a Plein Air Paint-Out!  In the bottom photo it looks like Scott painted a nice little gem...

Another Event to take notice is Carolina's Got Art & The Piedmont Pastel Society is presenting live pastel demonstrations and classes October 5 - 10, 2009 at The Atherton Mill 2000 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203 - For more information go to their web site which can be found by clicking on the link on the left Events/Classes section.

We are still working out some bugs in this blog such as we still need to make changes to the Art Wall photo gallery section for better display and a few other techno stuff... Just like art a continuous work in progress!
